Dear Ben Bernanke :
Or do you prefer Chairman Bernanke? I’m going to go with Ben. It’s easier to spell. Although you look more like a Harold. Perhaps a George. Anyways, that’s not my point.
Up until now, you’ve stayed on my good side.
Up until now.
Now don’t get me wrong, you walked in on a clusterfuck. And you seem to be a pretty stand up guy, and I’m sure that your advice to the American people would never purposely seem trite and condescending.
But this article, in which your advice is, essentially, “the economy sucks, learn to manage your money,” really makes me want to punch you in the face.
I get it. A lot of people have made some bad financial choices, which definitely have impacted our economy. Then again, a lot of people haven’t made those bad choices, and we’re sick of listening to your crap.
Managing your money is all well and good when you have enough money to manage. For those of us who are laid off, or struggling to pay the bills, there’s simply not enough money to manage.
When you’re out of a job, and trying to decide which bills to pay and which to short, money management isn’t as easy as just being responsible. Sometimes it’s not always that simple.
What’s your advice for that, Tito?
It’s not that I think you’re an ass, but I’m waiting for advice for the rest of us. The people who are barely making it, instead of the people who are or aren’t.
I eagerly await your reply.
Kisses
Clare
P.S. If your reply is no reply? Suck it.

great FG reference as well…
And sometimes it is. I am not about to feel bad for being fiscally responsible while someone else isn’t…and they’re trying to decide what to watch on cable while they still have a cell phone and they’re living off their credit cards.
Which is what really grinds my gears: people living outside their means. Part of this is the ‘entitlement’ mentality that some people harbor. We see this over and over and over again, though. Not just with finances but with students in school, in sports, politics, etc. Everyone feels entitled to have more than what they’re willing to put hard work into and make the tough, prudent decisions early on.
Bah. Get off my lawn, stupid kids.
Ben and Clare…
Hi.
Smooches!
Fuse.
Ben…
If I was pulling 6 figures we wouldn’t be having this discussion.
Kisses
Clare
Pft.
You should hear some of the things my mother asks about.
I really ought to get rid of her internet connection.
Does your mother know how you talk? As usual you nailed this guy…keep on
Dear Clare:
As you should be aware by now, government policy is NEVER about the little people. We’re bottom-line oriented, so if you don’t have enough money that it needs to be “managed,” you are obviously not among our policy target demographic.
So you can kiss my ass until you’re pulling down 6 figures. Then bitch to me about what we’re doing wrong and I might listen. Probably not, but I might.
XOXOXO
Ben
